Virus stitch – wait? What??

My next two projects were chosen once again because of a picture I saw on Facebook.  I thought the pattern was lovely, particularly with variegated yarn.  But the name… virus? Was this name meant to be ironic?

I liked this pattern so much I made two shawls using it.

I decided to use Red Heart Unforgettable yarn in Echo for my first project, with a H/5mm hook.  It’s a beautiful variegated yarn in soft colours.  I used six balls of it because I wanted the shawl to be very large and dramatic; it falls below the knees.  This was another gift for the same friend who I made the cowl for; the colours suited her perfectly.

One thing about this yarn – it does not take kindly to being unraveled if you make a mistake and have to back-track.

The second shawl was for another friend who is a HUGE fan of purple.  I bought this yarn with her in mind a while back (another Caron Cake) and was pondering what to make with it.  I liked how the first shawl turned out so much, I did a second one.  This one was done with a K/6.5mm hook and is a small shawl/very large scarf size.

I didn’t use a written pattern for these; instead, I did a search on YouTube.  There are several tutorials for this pattern.  SO handy.
