Cautionary Tale

This is a public service message, to save you from wasting your money on Red Heart It’s a Wrap yarn. This was – by a wide margin – the most frustrating yarn I’ve ever attempted to work with. It’s essentially four extremely fine threads in varying colours, with no twisting. Scheepjes Whirl is constructed the same way, but the individual threads aren’t so fine, so it’s possible to actually complete a project with it (I’ve completed four…) The Red Heart version costs less, and the quality is also quite a bit lower.

No matter how careful you are, the Red Heart yarn tangles and individual strands slip off the hook. I attempted to use this for a simple rectangular shawl that would have taken a couple of afternoons to finish with any other yarn. Yet after four days of repeated unraveling and cutting the yarn when it got too tangled, I threw the whole thing out after completing only eight rows (!). Actually, I cut up the yarn before throwing it out, so that no one coming across it would be tempted to try using it. I’ve used Red Heart yarns in the past with good results, so this was a real disappointment.

I’m sorry to say this, but I recommend avoiding this yarn like the plague.
