Ami what??

I hadn’t planned on venturing into the realm of amigurumi, but an unrelated project inspired me to make a few wee things for my mother for Christmas (which I can’t show here until December 26th…)

That project inspired me to attempt something on a larger scale.  Jack and I have a plethora of ornaments and such for our Christmas tree, enough for several themes.  Recently, our theme has been “cryptids”.  And while we’ve been successful in locating pretty much every one we’ve wanted to hang on our tree, one has eluded us:  the Loch Ness Monster.  Such ornaments exist, but they tend toward the overly-precious.   And wouldn’t you know it, but there’s an amigurumi pattern for it!

I used embroidery thread, rather than worsted weight yarn, and a 2.75 m hook, because I wanted mine to be smaller.  I had nine-and-a-half skeins of thread and used every bit of it.  In fact, I ran out, so did only two flippers.  I’ll eventually get more thread and finish up the back flippers.  Also, I embroidered the eyes, rather than use round safety eyes, to reduce The Cute.

Update:  I picked up some more yarn (in a slightly different colour, since they had none in the original colour…) and finished the back flippers.
