I’ve been re-building my sweater collection after pretty much all of mine went up in smoke. I’ve already re-made a cardigan that I really liked and made – and then unraveled – a pull-over. Even in my favourite yarn (Lion Brand Jeans), a crochet pullover is too bulky. I don’t really wear that many pullovers, anyway, so no biggie. But I did want to crochet a few dusters, since I do wear those. Duster in sweater parlance means to around the knee. There are a number I have planned to make, but wanted to start with this one:

It called for Lion Brand Jeans yarn, and I had just bought what is likely the last remaining Corduroy coloured ones for sale anywhere. The Jeans Colour version has been discontinued, so I was lucky to get what I did – enough for this coat, a hat and pinstripes in a scarf.
This was a very easy sweater to make, with textured front panels and a plain back panel. I deviated from the pattern with the sleeves. I started them a bit wider and had to adjust the decreases accordingly. Also, I did the cuffs separately, using back-look half double crochet. The pattern had the cuffs done in front post double crochet, but I preferred cuffs done my way, even though it meant a bit more work. The result is a stylish long sweater that I’ll look forward to wearing in the fall.
(It’s tough to see the texture from this picture, but it’s really there.)
