Cue Wagner

This is yet another project I did based on a conversation I had on social media. A good friend started a conversation about crocheted beards and another said, “Jackie – you should get Wheezer (her husband, who already has a resplendent beard) a hat with horns!” I had just finished a commission for a short-crowned topper for another friend, so I offered to make one. I even had some leftover yarn, so I didn’t need to go anywhere to do this.

I found a few patterns, but ended up using the horns from one and used my knowledge of previous beanies to create the helmet. Except I used two strands of Red Heart Super Saver yarn, since just one would not give the helmet enough structure to stop the horns from flopping around. It was your typical 8 HDC in a magic circle and then increases and such. The bottom was single crochet with bobble stitches. The horns were made with single crochet and one strand of Red Heart Super Saver yarn. I used the herringbone HDC stitch for the horn collars, to provide a textured look.

I just mailed this out yesterday – I hope Wheezer likes his new hat.
