This is another brilliant design by the Make and Do Crew – this one is the Tate Wool Rancher hat. The brim is not as wide as the Cleo fedora and it’s made with a wool blend yarn. One of the lessons I’ve learned the hard way is to use the suggested yarn or the nearest facsimile. The yarn substitution website is great for finding alternatives if the suggested yarn cannot be found.
This pattern uses about 1-1/3 skeins of Lion Brand Re-Tweed yarn, which is a lovely recycled wool-blend yarn. This is a simple pattern, although crocheting around the wire rope is a bit awkward. Also, galvanized wire rope is very tricky to cut – regular wire cutters won’t do it; I use a Dremel tool, which works beautifully.
